Subaru Outback Engine Configurations
The 2019 Subaru Outback can tow up to 2,700 pounds. It offers two powertrains that are both capable of helping you tow everything from a couple dirt bikes to a pop-up camping trailer.
The base engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® that gets up to 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. This works with an efficient Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
The second available powertrain is a larger 3.6L 6-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine that gets up to 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. For its extra power, this engine works with a Lineartronic® High-Torque Continuously Variable Transmission (HCVT).
Both options can help you haul extra cargo in a trailer or bring some recreational vehicles along on your next vacation.
Outback Towing Features
The Subaru Outback offers lots of features to help make towing easier, safer, and more convenient.
The standard Rear-Vision Camera makes hooking up to your trailer easy. Just shift into reverse and the infotainment screen on your dashboard will switch its display to a live, high-resolution look behind your vehicle.
Once you're on the road, you can always count on Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. It delivers traction on any terrain. Active Torque Vectoring can assist with your turning ability, even when you're hooked up to your trailer.
You can feel confident changing lanes with your trailer too. The available Blind Spot Monitor watches the sides of your vehicle and lets you know when another car is just out of sight.
Both transmissions also feature a Hill Holder® function. This eliminates rollback when you're traveling up a steep incline. Getting back down with your cargo is just as safe with standard Hill Descent Control. It helps you maintain a safe, constant speed.
