A midsize sedan, like the Subaru Legacy or Honda Accord, is a great option for all kinds of drivers. It has the space and safety features that families need, plus the stylish design and fuel economy that commuters love. So, which one is right for you?

To help drivers in Ithaca decide, Maguire Subaru looks at what they have to offer in this 2020 Subaru Legacy vs. Honda Accord comparison.

Performance & Capability

The 2020 Subaru Legacy offers several efficient powertrains. If you're looking for an exciting drive, there's a turbocharged 2.4L SUBARU BOXER® engine that gets up to 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. You'll also be cruising on a reliable drivetrain that comes with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This system helps you grip the road in any condition with Active Torque Vectoring and Vehicle Dynamics Control.

The 2020 Honda Accord also gives you a choice between a few efficient engines. Unfortunately, it's not able to provide you with as much power. Its strongest engine is a smaller 2.0L 4-cylinder that gets up to 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. While it does have a traction control system, all-wheel drive is not available on the Honda Accord.

Infotainment System

Both sedans come with a Bluetooth®-compatible infotainment system. Each system lets you safely make hands-free phone calls and stream your favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks. However, the Subaru Legacy comes with more compatibility.

Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard on every trim level. This lets you access your phone's apps right from your dashboard. You'll also have lots of music to choose from with standard SiriusXM® All Access Radio.

While the Honda Accord offers Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, neither one is standard on the base trim. You also won't find SiriusXM® until the higher trim levels, either.

Each vehicle starts things off with a 7-inch touchscreen. The Legacy offers a big upgrade, though. Its 11.6-inch touchscreen looks like a full tablet was installed in the middle of the dashboard. The only other option on the Honda is an 8-inch screen.

Safety Features

The Legacy lets you grip the road with standard all-wheel drive. It can also give you a clear picture of what's behind your car using a Rear-Vision Camera. Plus, EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology can prevent accidents with features like:

  • Pre-Collision Braking System
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management
  • Lane Departure and Sway Warning
  • Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering

There's even technology to monitor how you're driving. The available DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System can tell when you're distracted or drowsy and remind you to focus on the road.

The Honda Accord also comes with a rear camera and some similar driver-assistance features. However, its Honda Sensing® system doesn't offer anything like the DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System in the Subaru.
