A stylish compact sedan, like the Subaru Impreza or Toyota Corolla, should be fun to drive and offer lots of features. So, which one has what you're looking for in your next car?

To help drivers in Ithaca decide, Maguire Subaru looks at what each one has to offer in this Subaru Impreza vs. Toyota Corolla comparison.

Compact Sedan Specs

The Subaru Impreza delivers a sporty and capable drive with a 2.0L SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission comes standard, while a Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is available. Both options provide an efficient drive, while the standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive lets you grip the road in any condition.

The Toyota Corolla has front-wheel drive and a standard CVT. However, it runs on a smaller 1.8L 4-cylinder engine that only gets up to 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque.

Safety & Driver-Assistance Features

The 2020 Impreza offers lots of features to help keep you safe and give you peace of mind. The interior protects you with front, seat-mounted front side, and side curtain airbags, as well as front seat belt pretensioners and Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH).

You can also count on the available EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. This system bundles a series of safety features together that will give you more awareness during your drives.

It can help prevent accidents with features such as:

  • Pre-Collision Braking
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure and Sway Warning with Lane Keep Assist
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management

In addition to EyeSight®, you'll have more control on the road. The standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive includes a Traction Control System and Vehicle Dynamics Control to help you maintain traction on slick roads.

The 2020 Corolla also has front, side, and side curtain airbags, as well as LATCH and its own system of driver-assistance features. However, it can't provide you with the same kind of stability with standard front-wheel drive.

Infotainment System

The Impreza comes with a user-friendly infotainment system. It features a touchscreen display that looks stylish sitting in the center of your dashboard. The system comes with lots of smartphone compatibility with standard Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™.

On top of making hands-free phone calls, streaming music, and accessing your phone's apps, a navigation system is also available. It'll display detailed maps and provide you with turn-by-turn directions. Plus, with available voice recognition, you can control everything without taking your eyes off the road.

The Corolla also comes with touchscreen that's compatible with Bluetooth® and Apple CarPlay®. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer Android Auto™. The screen is also awkwardly positioned on top of the dashboard.
